The author of this book is a Vietnam war veteran. He returned there in 1989 when he flew a light plane into that country without permission. Since travel there by Americans was not legal at that time, he was arrested and fined. He returned there in 1992 on a research project for Auburn University. He completed this illegal research undetected and published the data. During 1995, Mr. Morris completed another research project there, but only after he was arrested and deported three times.
Forever banned from Vietnam by the communist government, Mr. Morris has circumvented that restriction and entered that country on more than a dozen occasions. He lives there several months out of the year and has written four scientific studies about the people.
This book chronicles the author's adventures in Vietnam. It describes the wartime years and the country as it is today. It is perhaps the most comprehensive description of the country that exists anywhere.
